SHERRY SOON

Sherry runs two groundups, Be Kind SG and Autoimmune Diseases SG.

Be Kind SG aims to create awareness on how people can contribute in different ways to a happier and kinder society. They inspire acts of kindness via micro-volunteering and raise the visibility of the 'less visible' communities such as adults with special needs.

Sherry was inspired to start Be Kind SG as she wanted to encourage more working adults to volunteer and share with them the various ways, they can incorporate acts of kindness into their daily lives. At the same time, she also wanted to focus on giving back to various 'less visible' communities in Singapore.

Be Kind SG continues to thrive due to the commitment and focus on volunteering with the adult disability homes and their #craftforgood sessions, which has led a regular pool of volunteers.

As for Autoimmune Diseases Singapore (ADSG), they seek to share information about autoimmune diseases relevant to Singapore and the ASEAN region. ADSG runs an informal support group for people living in Singapore who are formally diagnosed with autoimmune diseases.

Sherry has been living with vasculitis, an autoimmune disease, for the past 20 years, and the journey has not been easy for her due to the uncertainty of this chronic condition, which can be debilitating at times. She started Autoimmune Diseases SG as she did not know of anyone else living with an autoimmune disease and wanted to seek people with such conditions.

She attributes the success of ADSG to being started by someone living with an autoimmune disease who truly understands what it's like for others in the same situation. A few members bonded through an appreciation project this year and are helping to grow the group.
